last few days of city year

Wow! What a wild week it's been. I haven't posted in over a week because it's literally been non stop.  Tons of things have happened and hopefully by the end of this week, I'll be all caught up on the week's events.  I'm dedicating this post to the last few days as a City Year Corps Member (minus graduation...that deserves it's own post).

Tuesday was a lot of fun! We had graduation rehearsal at one until two and then a big, fancy dinner that night, but the day was pretty relaxing.  We had rehearsal where we practiced how to walk in and out of the room a million times (it actually was only twice, but it seemed like a lot).  It was pretty relaxed though, so it was a lot of fun.  We even got to wear real clothes!! hahahahha

After graduation rehearsal, I went and got a manicure and pedicure.  I never go and get my nails done, mainly because I'm on a tight budget, but with the fancy dinner that night and the wedding that weekend, I decided to splurge.  There's something about getting a manicure and pedicure that's extremely relaxing. It's like getting your hair cut. I loved it!  It's definitely something that will happen more often once I have a bigger budget.

I was cutting it close though because rehearsal ended at two and I had to leave for dinner at five, so there wasn't a ton of time to be relaxing at the salon.  City Year was having what was known as the Idealies that night. They had turned the Civic Forum into a big ballroom and had asked everyone to dress in their fanciest clothes.  I wore a black dress and pearls and everyone was dressed to a T.  I absolutely love dressing up because I rarely have a reason to do it.  It's also fun to be dressed up with everyone who's spent year in a red fleece vest and khaki pants.

When we got to the Civic Forum, the lights were dim, tables were all set and there was a slideshow of pictures playing.  There were yearbooks on the table with everyone's contact info and a CD of songs from throughout the year.  Shortly after we arrived, the awards part of the night started.  We had voted on different awards for corps members, senior corps members, staff and teams.  Ethan won the award for the most flexible corps member, which he should have since he switched classrooms halfway through! It was super exciting. I really wanted Erica to win TL of the year, but it didn't happen.  Our team did end up winning the award for Most Persevering Team, which I definitely think we deserve. We laughed when  our name was called because it was pretty obvious that it was intended for us.  I don't know if that's a compliment or not, but, hey, it's an award.  They had pasta for dinner, which was delicious and lots of dessert, as well as sparkling champagne and lemonade.  They were having a dancing portion afterwards, but my team ended up going to a bar in Dorchester for a while. Ethan can't really dance and a few of us aren't really big dancers, so we nixed that.  Overall, it was a really fun day. I loved the Idealies and am so glad that I have that memory with my team.

Wednesday, we were supposed to go on an end of the year retreat with the entire corps to a beach, but it ended up raining all day, so it was cancelled.  In the long run, it was a good thing because I had a ton of stuff to do to get ready for the wedding.  I went to CVS and the grocery store at least four times that day getting things ready, plus there was laundry, packing and letter writing to be done, so I was super busy.  It was nice to feel productive, but not have the pressure of being places at specific times.  It was definitely the relaxing day that I needed before graduation and the wedding.
