Today we were at school, which was such a treat since we aren't normally there. Plus, it was so laid back that it didn't even feel like a real day at school. It was exactly what I would have asked for. We also got to sleep in, which was so nice. Waking up at six instead of five is so much easier. It feels like more than an extra hour of sleep.
Anyways, we got there at 8:30 and did our morning circle before getting ready for morning greeting. We always do morning greeting for the middle school on Mondays, but we have to go to Morning Reading before the lower school starts, so they never get it. For morning greeting, we sing songs that have lots of energy and (hopefully) get them excited for going to school. So, today, we decided we would do it as the lower school was entering the dining hall for town meeting. Town meeting is every Friday and I'm so glad we got to see it. The administration comes up and talks about one school rule a week. This week's rule was "Every adult in this school is your teacher and it is your job to follow their directions." Ms. Lyne, the Assistant Principal called ME up and used me as an example in front of the entire lower school. First, she called on someone from my class and asked them if I was their teacher, to which they responded yes. Then she called on someone from third grade and was like, "Is Ms. Russo your teacher?" His response at first was "no" but then he realized it was a trick question and then replied "yes." The town meeting continued with a performance by K2 where they sang a song about leaves and waved around fall colored scarves. Of course, they didn't know half the words, but that made it even cuter. Student Spotlight was announced and Then, they sang a song and called it a day. It was the most adorable hour of the day for sure.
We went to class for an hour, which was nice to see my kids and just be able to hang out with them. They were doing literacy block, so I kind of just monitor them to make sure they are behaving at their centers. Then, we all went to lunch as a team together and had a "working lunch." Today was really nice because we had a lot of team time to work on stuff like the budget, enrichments, etc. In the afternoon, we had more team time and got to go to the Upper School town meeting. This one didn't have any singing. but it recognized the students for making Citizenship and Academic Honor Roll. They also chose a student to emcee, which was cool because she got to talk about what she wanted to study in college and that she wanted to be a therapist, so she would have to get her Master's degree. It was awesome.
It was so nice to be at the school on a Friday just to change it up. It was laid back because there was lots of team time, but I still got to see my students for a little bit and see the middle schoolers, without having to give them a hard time about their homework, paying attention, etc.
Tonight I'm obviously just hanging out. I'm exhausted beyond belief and will probably fall asleep right after I finish this. Tomorrow, a few people on my team, Erica and Danielle are heading to Erica's house in western Mass. to see a 3 mile lights show called "Bright Nights." I think it's like the lights at the boardwalk, but just longer. I'm so excited to get away and hang out with some of our team. Plus, I'm weird and love seeing where people are from, meeting people's parents, etc. Weird.
Anyways, I hope everyone has a FABULOUS (1st grade vocab word) weekend and get in the holiday season!!
P.S. shoutout to Colleen Warner for the wonderful Christmas package that came in the mail today! It couldn't have come at a better time!
