housewarming parties

Happy Sunday night. I have a love/hate relationship with Sundays, as do most people. I love the laziness that comes with it all, but the thought of the week ahead is sometimes so daunting.

My team mates Rachel and Pat just moved into a house together with two other people from City Year. In order to "break in" the house, they had a housewarming party last night.  I think it's kind of funny since almost everyone who came has just recently moved into an apartment or house within the last few months. Oh well. It was a lot of fun and it was nice to hang out with people from other teams. The weekend had gotten off to a rough start with my team. Pat and I are planning a mock election for the school and each class needed to sign up for a time to vote in the computer lab.  CMs were supposed to talk to their teachers about good times to come and vote, but of course there were people who didn't. It was the same people who forget to do stuff all the time and as a result, we spent team time dealing with it instead of playing games and just being able to hang out. So, needless to say, I was kind of annoyed with them.  I was glad to be able to spend time with them (and other people) outside of City Year to kind of relieve the tension that came out during team time on Friday. Just like last weekend, we all ended up staying at Rachel and Pat's and going to McKenna's for breakfast. It's literally the best breakfast place in Boston. You almost always have to wait 20 minutes for a table, but it's always worth it.  I feel like I've been living in Dorchester recently since most of my weekends are spent there and I am there all week at school. I know it has a bad rap, but I honestly love it. It's got such a community feel and is such a lively place. Gotta love the dot!

On a more somber note, I am sad to report the loss of a JMU duke.  Nick Keatts passed away this weekend. He was JMU cheerleader and a Communications major. I had one class with him my junior year and while he was never the most attentive student or the one that was the best group project partner, he added life to the most boring class and was always seen with a smile on his face.  He was the heart of the cheerleading team and was the leader of the JMU student section at football games. JMU lost someone special this weekend.

"Once a duke...always a duke"
