Sunday we went to the grocery store and ran errands all afternoon and then went to bed early because we had to be up sooooo early the next day for registration. Registration was a lot of fun, though. It made me excited for everything to start. The incoming corps members, as well as the staff and senior corps members were really nice and definitely people I could see myself working well with. It was nice because I don't know how I feel about my room mate Chelsea. I just feel like she's kind of bossy and in your face. I also think we have really different personalities and sense of humor. She's more South Park and I'm more...Friends/Parenthood. So, since she and Matt are really the only ones I've hung out with, it makes it kind of lonely. I really miss my family too, which makes it hard, especially since we're just hanging around.
Yesterday, I hung out with Michelle at her house all day, which was a good break from everything. It's nice to see a familiar face and just have a taste of JMU/home. She came back and we hung out with Matt, Chelsea and a few other people who live in the neighborhood who we're going to be working with. They were really nice and fun to hang out with, so that was good. Chelsea went to school with one of them and doesn't like her, but both Michelle and I liked her (more than Chelsea).
Today we went around the city. When I say around, I mean EVERYWHERE. Matt is not to be trusted with directions or making decisions. Ever. We were trying to find where to get food stamps because we qualify for them with our stipend. Trying to take the T to the bus to the place was just almost impossible. I was dying of hunger so we gave up for a while and went to Quincy Market, which I love. It's right on the water with the aquarium and it has a row of food stands that sell almost any kind of food. There were a ton of people there, but it was awesome. I hope it's open all year so I get to enjoy it. We finally made it to the place where they give out food stamps and by the time we made it back to our apartment, it was like 630. It was a full day. I'm exhausted.
My parents are coming on Friday with all my stuff. I couldn't be more excited. I just miss home so much. I also just can't wait to start so I'll start meeting new people and keep myself busy. I was never homesick when I started college, so this is all new. When Michelle moved from Boston to JMU, she said the first week was the hardest because you have nothing to keep you busy. Hopefully that is true and once we start working, things will be fine.
Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in.
