It's Fridayyyyy!! Thank goodness! What a week it has been! It seems like BTR and the day off were ages ago. Despite the fact that I'm exhausted, I've loved it. I love my team and cherish every chance we get to be together. I look forward to the hour or two that it's just the 12 of us. The past two days have been a lot of lectures, but they're definitely necessary. We've had trainings on how to deal with child abuse, working with the teacher, and the different stages of child development. It hasn't been the most exciting couple of days, but it's been worth it.
One exciting thing we've been doing is PT in Copley Square. Today and yesterday we've been meeting in Copley to do PT. PT is different types of warm up exercises done as a group. They range from jumping jacks to lunges. It seems kind of like boot camp, but it's really fun. The best part is the people who stop and watch. Yesterday, there were a ton of people including children. All of the kids were doing the exercises with us and we even had an older lady doing the bends and stretches with us. It was so funny. People were even taking pictures of us all as a group "in formation."
Next week will be so much more exciting because we start going to the school on Tuesday! I'm so excited! School starts on Thursday, so Tuesday, we'll be getting acclimated to the school and meeting the administration. Monday is going to be good too. One- we don't have to be at the office until nine, which is a lot easier than the eight am PT we've been doing. Two- it's going to be basically all team time, which is awesome. There won't be any lectures or meetings in the big room and we'll be able to hang out and talk while we're doing our work.
I am doing a service project tomorrow from 9-3 so that I can get some extra hours. I will probably be using up almost all of days off this year for travelling back and forth down south. If that's the case, I'll be cutting it close to the 1700 hours I have to log for Americorps purposes. Therefore, I'm trying to earn some extra hours when opportunities like Saturday projects present themselves. After that, I'M GOING TO A RED SOX GAME!! Michelle texted me today saying that she had tickets and wanted to take me. Excitement is an understatement. Let's just hope it doesn't rain or Irene doesn't come early.
Speaking of hurricanes, it's funny to be here instead of home for a predicted hurricane. People at home freak out, but that's nothing compared to here. Right now, all we're supposed to get is a tropical depression, but people are acting like the world is ending. They gave us a talk on how to prepare for the hurricane today at work. My room mate Matt is freaking out and comes in every hour to give me the update. I think Chelsea is more nervous than she's letting on, but is trying to stay calm. It's all just so funny because compared to what's supposed to happen down south. My worries are more about what's going down south than up here.
Stay safe Virginia! I'm missing you!
