I am because you are

Yesterday we were all placed on "Crazy Teams" which are teams for the week until we get assigned our permanent teams for the year.  I am on the Ubuntu team.  In some African language, Ubuntu basically means "I am because you are."  It is such a cool concept and I can see how it is deeply embedded in the City Year culture.

Today wasn't quite as exciting as yesterday because it was our first real day of training.  We had a lot of rules and stuff to go over, so it was definitely necessary, but not the most exciting.  The people that were presenting were entertaining, so it made it a little bit better. Tomorrow is going to be exciting though because it's the "school fair."  Today, they gave us a description of each school that we could be placed at.  Tomorrow, each school will have it's own table and the team leaders that will be working at each school will be at the table.  We'll have the chance to meet the TLs and decide which schools we like best.  We rank them so it's not guaranteed that we will get our number one but  I think they try to give us our top five.  Some of the schools are pretty far away, so that definitely something to consider, but I'm trying to base it more on which schools I like best since I'll be there all day every day and not so much on how far the commute is.

So, anyways, I'm excited for the next couple of days  because they'll be exciting and full of big things.  On Friday, we'll find out our teams for the year as well as what school we'll be in, which is going to be so great.  Then, Sunday, we leave for our three day retreat in Connecticut where we'll do team bonding and such.  I'm so excited to have our real teams so I can start meeting the people that I'll spend the year with.

I'll leave you with this.... "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." -MLK jr.
