crazy kids

Today was off the wall. We weren't really doing much of our normal day and had instead planned to do a lot of Halloween crafts and activities.  This was all fun and games for them, but they just kind of went crazy without all of the structure.  I was about to freak out if one more kid jumped out of their seat, tapped me incessantly and said "Ms. Ruuuuuusso." Plus, today we had indoor recess thanks to the rain, so they were literally cooped up in the room for hours on end.   They were just wired.

After first grade, I went to my Frisbee enrichment which was inside.  Again, inside equals wild kids who just want to go outside.  So they were kind of out of control, but nothing horrible.  We were trying play a game, but it wasn't really working. Danielle came with literally five minutes left and took over, which sounds nice, but the way she was going about it was unnecessary.  She just jumped in, took control and didn't look back. She had kids doing races up and down the hall, which got them moving, but still. She then tried to tell us that "based on their personalities, you need to keep them moving."  Arthur and I just looked at each other. I wanted to be like "And you know their personalities after two minutes with them?  We've been with them for four weeks."  She really annoys me.

Luckily, my course coaching kids were in a good mood, which always makes the afternoon go by so much faster.  My one course coaching kid with the attitude, JA, is going as Snooki from Jersey Shore for Halloween. So perfect for her, yet so inappropriate for a 13 year old. Oh well. I can only do but so much.  As long as she does her homework, I'm a happy girl.

I'm now sitting on my common room couch watching game 5 of the World Series and thinking of easy/low maintenance costumes for this weekend. I don't like all of the pressure that comes with Halloween and having a good costume. Plus, I don't really want all of the attention that comes with costumes....aka I don't want the attention on me. I'd rather just lie in my bed under my covers in the warmth.  Hahaha. Oh well. I'm sure this weekend will be fun, but it can be fun without a costume.

Anyways, what is everyone else dressing up as?  I love seeing other people's costumes because some people are very creative.

Lastly, we'll end on this statistic. Bullying has become such an issue in schools and while there are a lot of initiatives and programs to stop it, so much of it falls under the radar of the administration. It's so sad, especially when it's about something so natural as sexual orientation.

"61% of bullying is based on sexual orientation or gender identity."
