happy halloween!

This was one of the secrets on postsecret.com (an awesome blog with people's mailed in secrets...check it out!) and I think it sums up my sentiment of Halloween. I handed out candy, did lots of pumpkin activities in school and ate WAY too much chocolate. Seeing all of the trick or treaters' costumes was great, especially since we had some little munchkins. It was great.

Today at school felt pretty normal since it was Monday. The kids had their party on Friday, which I missed, so they had done it all.  In fact, one of my kids turned to me and said "Ms. Russo, it doesn't even feel like Halloween"  It was kind of nice to have a normal day because we had done so many fall/halloween activities last week. I'm curious to see how tomorrow goes, though, because I'm sure they're going to be suffering a candy hangover accompanied by a serious lack of sleep.  It will make for an interesting day.

I did give my first behavior report though. A behavior report home is a document that any teacher can send about a student when they are misbehaving.   It's more serious than clip changes, which are used for behaviors such as not sitting still at the carpet or talking when we're supposed to be quiet.  My good friend KC has a hard time staying in line, controlling his arms (and the jacket he's holding), and just interacting with people in general.  By the time we made it to lunch, KC made four people cry or complain about him on the way back from recess.  Needless to say, it was time for a behavior report. I feel bad punishing him for things like this because we think he may have a touch of Asperger's, but he also needs to obey the rules. So, a sheet went home today with the school rules he broke ("It is always your job to make things better, not worse" and "It is always your job to make sure the school is safe, clean and peaceful). as well as a description of his specific actions. This isn't his first behavior report this year and I'm sure it won't be his last, but hopefully, he understands his actions.

I hope you all had a great Halloween full of trick-or-treators!  Enjoy all the candy!
