The past few days have been a true Boston winter. It has snowed every day since probably Wednesday and now there's probably a good four or five inches on the ground. The funniest part is that people don't even think twice about it. Well, people besides me. I loved it! I was like a little kid, staring out the window from my bed all day. I just watched it fall all morning as the little temperature gauge on my computer flashed 18 degrees. Everyone else in the world acted like it was nothing, but I was happy.
With snow comes winter accessories. We went out for Mexican in Harvard Square tonight and as I was coming home, I realized how much I love winter accessories. Scarves, hats, gloves, you name it. They are so fun and can do wonders for keeping you warm. I am amazed at how much warmer you can be if you just put a scarf on. Hence the reason I have about ten. Gloves are equally as important and fun, especially for people like me who's whole body gets cold if their hands (or feet) are cold.
My updates for the past couple of days are not that interesting, minus a few.
Thursday, I did the Flat Stanley project with my first graders. We read a book about Flat Stanley and they colored their own Flat character. They loved that it was called Flat (their name). I can't wait for them to come back because the students are going to freak out. It's going to be a blast. We had one student who was absent, so he'll do his on Monday and then hopefully they can get sent out by Tuesday. I'm also excited because almost all of my team gave me at least one address to send a Flat person to, so a lot of my team's families will be getting one.
PT yesterday was an experience as well. It had snowed all night and luckily they had cleared the snow off of Copley Square, so we could do PT. The boys (minus Ethan) thought it would be funny to throw snowballs at Erica during first circle. I thought it would be funnier to watch, and thank goodness I did. We were circling and all of sudden, they threw the snowballs at her. Pat and Nick hit her in the chest and leg, but Arthur hit her in the face. I could tell she wanted to cry and then, her nose started to bleed. She tried to keep going with first circle, but it was a lost cause. It was mad awkward. Of all people to screw it up, of course Arthur would accidentally hit her in the face. He did apologize, which was good, and by the time we did PT and went to the office for team time, things were back to normal, including Erica's nose.
After PT, we had team time, where the most exciting part of our day took place. Erica came out of the elevator with a big box. When she opened it up, there were black fleece jackets for each of us purchased by the site out of their budgets. Last year, Timberland gave the corps 3/4 zip sweatshirts as part of the uniform, but since we're bigger, they couldn't afford to do that. People were really upset, but we all moved on and just wore our big all-weather jackets with the fleece lining in them. It was such a surprise when we found out we were getting them. It is just another example of how much the staff at City Year cares about their corps members. They didn't have to buy them for us and it came out of the budget, but they did and it definitely doesn't go unnoticed. We're all wearing them on Monday to school and I can't wait.
Last, I went out with Matt and two other guys last night in JP. Ms. Moulton gave me a gift card to a bar in JP. We went and checked it out and it was a lot of fun. It was pretty relaxed and quiet. It was weird going out with people other than my team, but a nice little change of pace. So, thanks Ms. Moulton for two drinks and plate of french fries. We appreciated it!
Tomorrow is going to be productive (I hope). Report cards come out this week and I think two of my CC students could pass all of their classes. I might cry if that happens. Let's just pray that they all did some revisions this weekend and didn't lose them once they were done. A girl can dream, right?

― Markus Zusak, The Book Thief
I highly doubt Arthur and Erica are going to be friends forever, but who knows....
