I woke up an hour late today and that set the tone for the entire day. When my alarm went off, I looked at the time and it was 5:50. I leave my house at 6:05. Just imagine the frantic happenings that took place in the next fifteen minutes. That really set the tone for the entire day. There was a lot of stuff to do before the day started, so all of my normal Monday stuff (copies, stuffing folders, etc) got pushed back. I felt bad because I really wasn't around in class for a lot of whole class support because I was trying to get all of my morning stuff done. i guess that's why each day is a new day. Tomorrow will be a new day.
My good friend JA had a rough morning as well. Her mom has been in the Dominican Republic since before Christmas, so she's been staying with her sister. She's refused to give a phone number for her sister, so I haven't been able to call after Course Coaching or when she misses morning reading. Finally, Erica told her it would be a sign in if she didn't bring one today. So, I walk into morning reading and ask for the number. She doesn't have it, so I fill out the pass to go sign in. When I hand her the pass, she reads it, sighs and says "Give me a pen." in her usual disgusted tone. I could have signed her in for disrespect, but I just handed her a pen and she wrote down the number.Needless to say, she wasn't very happy.
There was big news in Course Coaching today, though. City Year and the Celtics have a great relationship and lots of teams get tickets to games. Our turn came this week and we were given 20 tickets to the game on Friday night. Erica chose students from our Course Coaching groups who would get to go and MO and JR were two of them. They were chosen based on attitude and improvement. I dont' really have much to do with their attitude most of the time, but I'm the sole person for their improvement in their grades. I don't think I've seen JR show that much emotion or excitement, ever. They were pumped. Unfortunately, I don't get to go. Last week, all of the CMs voted for the two people on our team who we think have improved the most. Unbeknownst to us, we were voting for the CMs who would get to go to the game. Margaret, Sam, and Nick won, so they'll get to go. I am hoping that I didn't win because I didn't need that much improvement, but you never know....
My day ended with registering for the GREs. April sixth here I come. I'm less than thrilled about the next two and a half months of studying I get to add to my plate of stress, but hopefully it will pay off. Add me to your list of prayers.

I love reading your blog! It is an inspiration to me every day to see what great things you are doing!
ReplyDeleteAnd I also love hearing about the not so great things such as the drunk guy on the subway. You should have seen the guy on the Tide yesterday - wish I had taken a picture. I call him zipper head b/c he had a zipper (i'm not kidding!) running down the top of head. It was zipped open so the effect was that his skull was zipped open at the top and into the opening were bills (not sure if they were ones, tens, twenties or hundreds). You can't make this stuff up!
