TGIF! This week wore me out and it was so short. It seems like Virginia and winter break were ages ago. I miss those days. Today was awesome though. It's week like these that make me thankful for our Fridays at HQ. By the end of the week, sometimes, I just need a day outside of the classroom to regain perspective and just commiserate with other CMs about our loss of patience and crazy students. It's also good because I hear about people who have had worse weeks than mine and become thankful that I don't have to worry about issues such as teen pregnancy and major violence on a daily basis. I have it easy.
We had an awesome speaker to start out our morning. Sheila Cavanaugh came to speak to us about her life and how service has played an important role init. She used to work on Wall Street but then ended up teaching English in a refugee camp abroad and living a life of service. She was hilarious, but also had great things to say. It was refreshing and a great way to start off the day.
Afterwards, we had a normal day of working group, IJ, and team time. I feel like it was a good transition back. Not too many trainings, speakers etc. but it was definitely productive and needed. We ended our day at the office with Winter Olympics. We did it by IJ team, which was fun since we're with our school teams all day every day. There were four different competitions: a relay race, an eating contest, a Mad Gab competition, and a rubber band flinging competition. Sadly, my team did not even come close to winning, but it was fun. I think Ravi knew that the first week back would be rough for some of us, so I thank him for ending the week with Winter Olympics
After we finished at the office, we headed to school for the first "First Friday" of 2012. The lower school does a potluck on the first friday of every month. This month, they asked everyone to bring a dish and their favorite board game. It was so much fun. I got to hang out with five or six of my kids outside of the classroom, which is always nice. Plus, I feel like we get to spend so much time with the middle schoolers and we hardly ever spend time as a team with the lower school. It's nice to show off my babies to the middle school CMs. I was not looking forward to it when we were on the way because of how frustrated I was yesterday, but I think it was good to spend time outside of class with them and just get to hang out with them. I wish I could post pictures of my kiddos because they are adorable. Love 'em!
As we were about to leave HQ, Erica checked her email and there was an email from Northeaster law school telling her she had been accepted!! It was so exciting since it's the number one public interest law school in the nation and her top choice! She looked like she was about to cry and I don't blame her. We were all proud little Corps Members of our fearless leader! She'll probably never see this, but congratulations Erica! You're going to change the world.
My weekend is completely open, but there are lots of things to do. We got Senior Corps applications today which makes me excited, nervous and scared for life after this year. When I think of next year, I think of senior corps, but there is definitely a possibility that could not happen. I need to spend this weekend figuring out other options. Also, I need to register/take the GREs if grad school is going to happen in 2013.....oh life. You're killing me here.
Have a great weekend!

It was so nice to laugh today after such a stressful yesterday.
