and then there were seven...really

Nick quit on Thursday. There's no way to sugar coat it or hide it.  My team of ten has become a team of seven.   It's not really a surprise. Well I guess it's a surprise, but it doesn't change a ton. Nick wasn't the most reliable person when it came to deadlines, so we were constantly doing or redoing his work. He was the one who took a two week "hiatus" in February and ever since then, he hasn't really been the same. Lots of times in Course Coaching and morning reading, people would complain that he wasn't doing his job.  In second grade, I would often see him playing games with his reading groups instead of actually reading. He had gotten in trouble a lot with Danielle and Erica and it was probably only a matter of time before he got fired, so in a way, it makes it easier for Danielle and Erica.  It sucks though because now the seven remaining CMs are going to have to cover his Course Coaching kids, Danielle and Erica are going to have to teach his enrichments, and everyone is going to have to carry the weight left behind by the "three bumps in the road" as they're being referred to now.

I am worried for what this means for me.  When Rachel (3rd grade) left, Ethan (4th grade) was given a lot of new tasks and responsibilities. I will do whatever is needed without hesitation, but it won't be easy. This week I think will be pretty normal while Danielle and Erica figure out what to do. It sucks, but at this point, we're all in it together and Nick was definitely our weakest link.  It is sad to see him go, but we're in it wholeheartedly and he was bringing us down.

In good, exciting news, we're getting a new student tomorrow! I met him on Thursday briefly and he's really cute.  He's missing his two front teeth and didn't say a word, but he's super cute. I can't wait!  Another post about Easter to come tomorrow along with an update about the newest first grader!
