I think it's awesome when major companies do something to recognize non-profits and community service. This week, both the Red Sox and Comcast did just that. Wednesday night, the Red Sox gave City Year 100 tickets to the game that night, which was a blast. I've been to Red Sox games before, but this was a lot of fun because there were so many people there that I knew. It was just like one big party. The fact that my team got to go together made it an incredible night.

Saturday was a service day known as Comcast Cares Day. Comcast is a major sponsor of City Year, so their representatives are often at our service projects. This past Saturday, though, they sponsored service projects across the country with City Year. In Boston, all of City Year was at the Tobin K-8, which is one of our schools (the one that Chelsea serves at). We were painting, doing yard work, building benches and stuffing back packs for the students at the Tobin. I was repainting the 3rd and 4th grade hallway (which is where Chelsea is) with 11 other corps members and staff. It was a lot of fun and seeing the school after the project was done was incredible. A major shoutout and appreciation to Comcast!

I couldn't post about this week without mentioning the amazing students and my time at the Umana K-8 in East Boston. I spent this week serving in a 7th grade math class at Acceleration Academy. Lots of Boston public schools held acceleration academy for students who are struggling in math this week. Since NHCS wasn't having anything, we were at the Umana. It was so much fun being with a different grade level and a different group of students. Most of these students were not from the United States and spoke Spanish. Many of them had just moved here within the past few years. It was such a different demographic from NHCS, but a complete blast. I also loved being in a middle school math classroom. It was an awesome week for sure!
