blackout in Boston

Starting around 7pm last night until about 7am this morning, my life was literally in shambles.  Let me just enlighten you....

I headed to HQ after school because I had a lot of random little things to do.  I could do them at home, but I get so distracted there, plus I get hours for doing it at HQ.  Anyways, I grab dinner and settle in at Erica's desk for a long night of work.  About 20 minutes in, it goes pitch black in the office for about a minute before generators kick in.  The lights come back on, but the computers and everything I need is off.  Everyone in the office looks outside and sure enough, the entire block is out.  All I could think was, "This is it. City Year is literally going to kill me.  This is the end."

After about 45 minutes of waiting to see if it would come back on, everyone heads out.  We soon learn that power is out all over downtown due to a fire and isn't expected to come back on.  As of this morning, it still wasn't home. I took the bus home because most of the T stops around me were closed or majorly backed up.  It was a very crowded bus ride with more than a few people who needed a shower. Needless to say, it was not a productive night and definitely not how I wanted to spend my night.

I went to bed thinking that I would wake up and have a fresh start.  I must have been so disheveled after the events of the night,  I wasn't in my element. I have a routine I do before bed to make sure I'm ready to leave in the morning.  That routine must not have been carried out last night because I was definitely not all prepared when I left this morning.  I actually left a few minutes early.  I got to Dunkin and was waiting in line before ordering when I went to get my wallet out of my backpack.  I soon realized that my wallet with my money, my keys and my T pass was not in my bag.  Every night, I pack my back pack and my lunch box so I can just grab and go in the morning.  I guess that didn't happen last night.

I walked all the way back to my house (mind you it's almost a mile each way) and got my wallet.  I wanted to just go back to sleep and start over, but I figured I'd be the better person and just head right back out.  By seven o'clock, I had walked three miles.  I got to school just in time for morning reading, which was kind of a bummer (I was secretly hoping to just skip that).

Danielle showed up around nine because the power was still out at HQ and they couldn't do any work.  She is always at HQ on Wednesdays, which is nice because by mid week, we're all ready for a Danielle break.  So, when she showed up at school,  I think everyone's mood dropped a little. I just stayed in my classroom and did work instead of venturing down to the office during my break.

Last, TODAY WAS PI DAY!! Pi is a never ending number that starts with 3.14, so on March 14th, all of the math nerds celebrate and do fun math things.  We had a "Pie the teacher" contest with the middle schoolers. The seven students who memorized the most digits of pi got to pie teachers/City Years in the face.  They went crazy as half of my team, the assistant principal, and the gym teacher got pied in the face.  It was hilarious.  The students got to choose who they wanted to pie.  JA tried really hard to memorize enough digits to pie me, but, alas, it wasn't enough and I was safe.

Nick and Margaret...post pie!

Happy pi day everyone!!
