joys of the week!

This week has been pretty normal, but here are two cute stories from today.

In my classroom, we have this place on the board where we keep track of how many days we've been in school.  Each day, we add one penny with a magnet taped on the back to the board and when we get to five, we trade it in for a nickel.  We've been in school for 132 days, so we had five quarters, one nickel and two pennies on the board.  When we came in this morning, they were all missing.  This was the third time that someone had stolen our money off of the money box.  It was shocking and angering! Who would steal $1.32, especially from a bunch of first graders?  They decided that, during snack, they would all write notes on post its and stick them where the money should be.  They are the funniest things.  My boy KC wrote "Don't steal our money. I know karate." and LP wrote "Don't take our pennies and quarters or I'll tell the principal."  I was dying laughing reading them.  Here are some of the pictures.

Translation: Don't steal our quarters because I know karate
Translation: Give me them back or I will tell the principal

Translation: Can you please stop touching our quarter and penny?

Today in Course Coaching, it was just MO and I so I got to really work with him and make sure he got everything done. At the end, I was asking him if his grandmother wanted me to call her, or if I should just call his mentor.  He said yes because "my grandmother always asks about my tutor and I always tell her that you're not my tutor, you're my helper and my F-R-I-E-N-D."  I love MO and he is such a great kid. I am so glad that we have developed such a  great relationship this year.  I didn't want to make a big deal out of it since I knew he was kind of hesitant to say it (hence the spelling of the word), but it really meant a lot to me.
Just a little ray of sunshine during this cold and dreary week!

Notes from my lovely first grade girls!
